4 Popular and Common Types of Microscopes
Microscopy is a technique for studying the structure of objects that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. There are many different types of microscopes, and each solves unique problems. Today, we will share four excellent microscopes.
1.Stereo microscope
Stereo microscope, also known as “solid microscope” or “dissecting mirror”, can produce upright three-dimensional space images when observing objects. Strong stereoscopic effect, clear and wide imaging, and long working distance, the scope of application is very wide.
The operation is simple, intuitive, and the verification efficiency is high. It is suitable for the verification of welding defects (printing dislocation, sagging, etc.) in the inspection of printed circuit components in the electronic industry production line, verification of single-board PC, verification of vacuum fluorescent display screen VFD, etc. , with measurement software can measure various data.
2.Compound Microscope
Compound microscopes (also known as upright light microscopes) are probably the most common microscopes you can find. The term “composite” refers to a microscope with multiple lenses. Basically, compound microscopes generate magnified images through a pair of aligned objectives and eyepieces.
Typically, compound microscopes are equipped with 3–5 objectives ranging from 4x to 100x(4x/10x/40x/63x/100x). Assuming you have a 10x eyepiece and a 100x objective, the total magnification for this combination is 1,000x (10x100 = 1000).
The ideal specimen for a compound microscope is something small and thin because light must pass through the specimen. Compound microscopes have higher magnifications and can see the details of objects; therefore, compound microscopes are also called high-power microscopes.
3.Pocket Microscope
This is a specially designed microscope that is small and portable, hence the name “Pocket Size”. Most microscopes have an eyepiece on one end, a light on the other, and a small stage on which objects can be placed for viewing.
This is a very portable microscope, ideal as a gift for kids or students. Scientists use it for handheld imaging of various specimens/objects in the field or in the laboratory.
4.Digital microscope
A digital microscope is also called a video microscope. It converts the physical image seen by the microscope through digital-to-analog conversion to make it image on the screen or computer that comes with the microscope, which is mainly used for teaching purposes.
The main advantages of digital microscopes are: traditional optical microscopes can only be used by one person, it is difficult to share the images of the microscope, and to take the images inside the microscope, special instruments are often needed.
However, since the digital microscope can be connected to the computer, the video in the microscope can be played through the projector connected to the classroom, so that the students in the classroom can watch the video together, which is also helpful for the management of classroom order.
