iPhone14 vs iPhone14 Pro:Which One You Want to Choose?
Apple announced the iPhone 14 series at an event in Cupertino in early September.
There are four devices in this series, including iPhone14, iPhone14 Puls, iPhone14 Pro and iPhone14 Pro max. There is no iPhone 14 mini this year.
Phonefix compared the iPhone 14 with the iPhone 14 Pro based on the published specifications so that you can choose the right model.
iPhone14 vs iPhone14 Pro — Dimensions
While both devices are billed as 6.1-inch smartphones, they are not the same size.
At 5.81 inches, the iPhone 14 Pro is a hair taller than the 5.78-inch iPhone 14. The roles in width are reversed, with the iPhone 14 being larger at 2.82 to 2.81 inches. These are just minor differences that users won’t notice. Both units are 0.31 inches thick.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro — Displays
The first major difference between the models is the screen. Both feature a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with HDR support, equal 2 million:1 contrast ratio, wide color gamut (P3) support, True Tone and haptic touch, but otherwise, things are a little different different.
First, the iPhone 14 Pro’s display is an always-on design, so when the iPhone isn’t actively being used, you’ll see the time and date along with any widgets you’ve placed on the lock screen. Unlike the iPhone 14, you don’t need to wake the iPhone 14 Pro to view these at-a-glance details.
The bangs of the iPhone 14, which has a TrueDepth camera array. To hide the new, smaller cutout in the iPhone 14 Pro, the display instead uses what’s called a dynamic island.
It's a very clever move by Apple, as it effectively replaces the oft-criticized static black sections with moving quality that distracts users from critical parts that Apple wants to hide.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro — Camera
The iPhone 14 has a typical 12-megapixel camera setup, including a wide-angle camera now called the “main” camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera with Sensor-Shift optical image stabilization. While there are some aperture changes and a larger sensor to improve low-light performance, Apple hasn’t done much with the hardware.
The triple arrangement of the Pro models already has the advantage of an additional 12-megapixel telephoto camera, also thanks to Apple’s decision to finally upgrade the resolution of the camera’s sensor. At least for one of them.
The main camera now uses a 48-megapixel quad sensor, which divides similarly-colored pixels into groups of four. This arrangement allows the camera to capture 48-megapixel images and makes each quad act as a single large pixel to increase low-light capture for 12-megapixel images.
Both benefit from features like Deep Fusion, the Photonic Engine that puts Deep Fusion intelligence early in the process to increase data retention, photography style, night mode and portrait mode with portrait lighting.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro — Performance
In a regular upgrade, the chips will be the same between the non-Pro and the Pro. But this year is different. The iPhone 14 Pro uses the A16 Bionic with a 6-core CPU with 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores, which is “40% faster than the competition.” The 5-core GPU has been improved with a 50% increase in memory bandwidth, while the 16-core Neural Engine can manage nearly 17 trillion operations per second.
For the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple stuck with the A15 Bionic, but did opt for the version used in the iPhone 13 Pro, which has one more GPU core than the iPhone 13 version. That means it uses a 6-core CPU with 2 performance and 4 efficiency cores, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second.
In lieu of benchmarks to show exactly how big the difference is, it’s safe to say that the iPhone 14 has a proven and powerful chip. But the iPhone 14 Pro version is better.
iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro — price, colors
The iPhone 14 starts at $799 for the 128GB model, rising to $899 for the 256GB model and $1,099 for the 512GB model.
The iPhone 14 Pro costs $999 for the 128GB model, $1099 for the 256GB model, $1299 for the 512GB model, and $1499 for the 1TB model.
You can get the iPhone 14 in five colors: Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and (Product) Red.
The iPhone 14 Pro is available in four colors: Space Black, Gold, Silver, and Deep Purple.
