iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus

Over the past few years, Apple has gotten into the habit of releasing four new iPhones every September -- two "regular" models and two with the "Pro" moniker. So far, non-Pro versions include regular-sized iPhones and minis. However, this will not be the case in 2022, as the iPhone 14 series ditches the mini model. Today we at phonefix explore the differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

1. Design

Size is the biggest difference between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus: the iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Plus has a larger 6.7-inch display. So the iPhone 14 weighs just over 6 ounces, while the iPhone 14 Plus is a little over 7 ounces.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus keep the same notch as the iPhone 13 series, which means it will be very much, but 25% smaller than the iPhone 12. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have gotten rid of the full notch and replaced it with a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID and the front-facing camera.

2. Camera

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus share camera hardware. This includes two cameras on the back -- a wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens.

A new feature not found on previous iPhones is the Photon Engine. That's Apple's fancy name for a new image processing pipeline focused on getting better low-light shots.

3. Battery

The battery in the 14 Plus is indeed a lot bigger than the iPhone 14 and on par with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to Apple, the iPhone 14 has the lowest battery life, followed by the iPhone 14 Pro, then the iPhone 14 Plus, and finally the iPhone 14 Pro Max. In other words, the two largest iPhones have the strongest batteries.

Every iPhone 14 model supports wireless charging, MagSafe magnetic charging, and fast charging with a 20W adapter.

4. Performance

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic chipset, the same chipset as the iPhone 13 series. But compared to the iPhone 13, they both have extra GPU cores and improved cooling, which means there's a slight boost in performance even with the same chip. Apple is also giving both phones the same new safety features — collision detection and satellite-powered emergency SOS. Hopefully you'll never need to automatically notify someone you've encountered a vehicle collision or lost somewhere in the wilderness, but any of these phones can help.

Summarize:

The Plus will most likely offer better battery life and possibly slightly better performance. For all other intents and purposes, it looks like the same phone in two different form factors. If you want a big-screen iPhone, but don't want to shell out for a Pro Max, the Plus should be the way to go!
