Teardown iPhone 14 - Redesign

According to Apple, the best features of the iPhone 14 are a stronger processor, satellite SOS and a larger camera. A teardown revealed that Apple has completely redesigned the internals of the iPhone 14 to make it easier to repair. It's not visible at all from the outside, but it's the biggest design change to the iPhone in a long time. Today we phonefix to study where the changes are.

Repairability

According to teardown expert iFixit, Apple has secretly redesigned the entire interior of the iPhone 14 for what appears to be one reason: repairability. As the site explains, the iPhone 14 has been "reborn as a beautiful butterfly" with removable back and front glass.

From our perspective, the iPhone's design optimizes for quick service in two key components: the screen and the battery. Of course, the downside of this front-optimized design is that it's difficult to replace the rear panel.

Easy to disassemble

The back glass is simply secured with two screws and a connector. Apple appears to have used a slightly less aggressive adhesive, which makes it easier to open than previous screens.

There's a new midframe behind the screen on which all the internal components are mounted. The large number of antennas that make modern 5G+GPS+WiFi+Bluetooth+satellite signals work in one device need to be grounded. Ten new electromagnetic interference fingers are attached to contact points that separate the rear panel to maintain the ground previously achieved by soldering.

Reduced maintenance costs

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models are essentially a sandwich, consisting of a display, a midframe that houses most of the internal components, and a rear glass panel. , Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can replace the midframe by installing a new one over the customer's existing display, back cover glass, and rear camera, as long as the parts are not damaged.

Different processors

Apple debuts the iPhone lineup with two different processors. The iPhone 14 base model has last year's Apple A15 Bionic processor, and the more expensive 14 Pro models have the latest Apple 16 Bionic processor.

In addition to improving repairability, iFixit notes that the US models of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro have a "large gap" where the SIM tray slot used to be (and still is on international models).
